Every Alix D. Reynis piece begins as a drawing in her studio-shop in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Alix Depondt-Reynis, a sculptor by training, turns the shape on a plaster wheel and engraves any motif by hand, and from that model her studio makes the molds. Each mold casts about forty pieces before it wears out.

The molds go to Limoges, where artisans pour in liquid porcelain, fire each piece first at 980 degrees and then at 1400, and dip it in glaze by hand in between. Her designs take their ornament from 18th-century porcelain, medieval jewelry and Tuscan vases, and they are made for daily use, from the kitchen to the dressing table. They go in the dishwasher, the microwave and the oven.
