Ichendorf takes its name from Quadrath-Ichendorf, the small town near Cologne, Germany where a group of master glaziers began working in silica glass in the early 1900s, favoring ornate, densely decorated pieces suited to the taste of the day. By the 1950s the company had turned toward cleaner shapes and purer material, stripping away the old ornament. In 1990, the operation relocated to Milan, adding the city's name to its own, and began collaborating with Italian and international designers including Corrado Dotti and the Japanese-Italian studio Mist-O. The glass is still mouth-blown, now alongside stoneware introduced in 2019, work built on a century of glaziers' technique read through a contemporary Italian eye.
