Behind the Brand

Lobmeyr

Founded in Vienna in 1823 by Josef Lobmeyr, a journeyman glazier who'd trained in various shops before opening his own. He supplied the imperial household its first service in 1835, a prism-cut set running to more than 4,000 pieces, still on display in the palace museum. His son Ludwig expanded the business into a "glass publisher," commissioning designs rather than only stocking them, and worked with Josef Hoffmann on the Patrician set carried here, first drawn in 1917. The glass is still mouth-blown and hand-cut in Austria, now under the sixth generation of the family, a company that co-invented the electric crystal chandelier with Edison and still counts the Vienna State Opera among its clients.
