Thai Ashwashed Sawankhalok Vessel
A tall stoneware vessel from the historic Sawankhalok kilns of central Thailand, distinguished by its elongated ovoid form and ashwashed glaze. The pale gray, smoke-toned glaze carries traces of kiln ash and mineral veining, creating a painterly, almost stratified effect across the body. Small lug handles near the neck reflect its utilitarian origins as a storage jar, while the elegant taper and earthy palette give it a sculptural presence.
Sawankhalok wares flourished between the 14th and 16th centuries, prized for their refined stoneware bodies and celadon-style glazes. This piece bears the marks of age and handcraft—soft pitting, uneven glaze application, and the quiet irregularities that speak to centuries-old kiln traditions.
