Thai Sagewashed Sawankhalok Vessel
A tall stoneware vessel from the historic Sawankhalok kilns of central Thailand, distinguished by its elongated ovoid form and subtle green-beige glaze. The body shows soft incised banding and irregular glaze pooling, with natural ash deposits lending depth and variation to the surface. Small lug handles near the neck reflect its utilitarian origins as a storage jar, while the elegant taper and earthy palette give it a sculptural presence.
Sawankhalok wares flourished between the 14th and 16th centuries, prized for their refined stoneware bodies and celadon-style glazes. This piece bears the marks of age and handcraft—soft pitting, uneven glaze application, and the quiet irregularities that speak to centuries-old kiln traditions.
