Pair of Butter Cylindrical Pedestals

A pair of cylindrical wood pedestals finished in a warm butter yellow with a soft umber crosshatch glaze applied over the surface. The glaze creates a fine hatched texture that reads as fabric or aged patina depending on the light, and sits in quiet contrast to the clean geometry of the column form. Each pedestal rests on a stepped circular plinth base with a corresponding cap molding at the top.

The cylindrical pedestal as a display object gained particular currency in the 1980s, when interior designers drew freely from classical precedent while stripping ornament to its most essential geometry.
