Pair of E. Murio Manila Burnt Bamboo & Grasscloth Side Tables
A matched pair of nightstands or side cabinets by E. Murio of Manila, each fitted with a single drawer above a single-door cabinet with interior shelving. The frames are constructed of burnt bamboo, the characteristic scorched finish that deepens the cane to a warm amber-brown and seals the surface. Panels on the drawer fronts, cabinet doors, and top are covered in a fine woven grasscloth, the diagonal herringbone pattern shifting direction between the drawer and door to quiet effect. Hardware throughout is bone or composition in a simple disc form.
E. Murio was established in 1984 as a family-run workshop in Manila, tracing its aesthetic lineage from Spain through the Far East. Now in its second generation under creative director Tisha de Borja, the firm is known for its distinct approach to bamboo and rattan. The pieces were made during the golden era of Filipino rattan export, when Manila workshops supplied the American and European interior design trade with handcrafted natural furniture of a quality rarely matched elsewhere.
