Pair of Donghia Murano Glass Table Lamps c. 1990s

Blown in Murano in a muted, mossy olive, frosted to soften the color to something closer to sea kelp than bottle glass. The form is a classic baluster: wide at the shoulder, drawn in at the waist, set on a disc base worked in the Battuto technique, its surface hammered into small, faceted cells that catch the light differently at every angle. Wide conical shades keep the silhouette architectural.

John Hutton served as design director at Donghia from 1978 until 1998, and the Murano glass lines he developed with Seguso during that period are among the most collected of the Donghia output. This pair is consistent with that collaboration in both technique and proportion, the frosted finish and Battuto base being hallmarks of the Seguso-for-Donghia lamps of the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Sold as a pair.
