Pair of 20th C. Swedish Gustavian Benches
Chalky grey-white painted frames, the paint worn through to bare wood at the edges and corners in the way that only happens with age. Brass rosette medallions at each corner of the apron, brass claw-and-ball feet with a light verdigris. The seats are newly upholstered in Schumacher's Les Fougères: multiple fern species rendered in natural history illustration style, deep forest green and amber on ivory, tufted.
The Gustavian style is Swedish neoclassicism at its most restrained: pale paint and classical proportions.
