Pair of Rosso Levanto Marble Obelisks
Rosso Levanto is one of the great Italian decorative marbles, oxblood red shot through with white veining that moves like lightning across the surface. These two obelisks are faced in it, rising from stepped bases of pale cream marble with a circular medallion of marble inset into each plinth. The contrast between the dark shaft and the light base gives them a formal, almost architectural presence. A classic Grand Tour form, the obelisk as souvenir of antiquity, scaled for a mantle or a shelf.
