Pair of Swirl Murano Glass Egg Table Lamps c. 1970s

An ovoid body of hand-blown opaline glass, the surface traced in a diagonal swirl of blush pink and white achieved through a technique called rigadin ritorto: the glass twisted at an angle during blowing so the ribbing spirals continuously around the form. Set on a polished brass disc base. The lamp is wired with a socket inside the body so the glass itself illuminates, the swirl catching light from within and turning the whole form into something between a lamp and a lantern.

This egg form was one of the signature shapes of Vetri Murano in the 1970s, produced in opaline glass across a range of colors. Sold as a pair.
