Salacia Platter
Salacia, the Roman goddess of the sea and salt water and consort of Neptune, rides across this oval platter on the backs of mythical sea creatures, drawn as a cameo in medium blue underglaze. Giuseppe Parrinello paints each one by hand, so the line and the depth of blue shift from piece to piece. Food safe, so it can carry oysters or figs as easily as it hangs on a wall.
Giuseppe Parrinello is a London based artist and designer whose Italian heritage has always drawn him to classical revival - its illustrations, shapes and material often finding their way into his work. Antiquities are often his starting point, reinterpreting the past into decorative homewares. Specializing in mould making and slip casting techniques, Giuseppe’s work is hand-made in limited editions. As a result, each piece is individual and has its own unique finish.
