Belmont House was the home of Eleanor Coade, the 18th-century businesswoman who developed the famed artificial material known as Coade Stone
Aldous Bertram is a Charleston-based interior designer and artist known for his richly layered, historically informed watercolors. Raised in a Queen Anne country house in the village of Linton, Cambridgeshire, and later educated at Cambridge—where he earned a PhD in 18th-century gardens and architecture—he brings a rare depth of architectural literacy to his work. This exclusive collection for Wentworth translates some of Europe’s most remarkable interiors and architectural details into luminous, meticulously detailed studies, capturing the neoclassical whimsy, saturated color, and collected spirit that define his artistic hand.
Front Door of Belmont House presents the distinctive entrance to the Georgian seaside villa once owned by Eleanor Coade, the pioneering entrepreneur behind Coade Stone. Renowned for its exceptional durability and crisp detailing, Coade Stone revolutionized British architectural ornament in the late 18th century. Bertram’s watercolor highlights the elegance of the doorway—its symmetry, sculptural flourishes, and seaside patina—offering a refined study of both material innovation and Georgian design.
